The Great Egret was nearly decimated in the late 1800s when they were hunted for their plumes for fashion. Thankfully early conservationists put an end to the slaughter, and protection of this beautiful bird resulted in the colonies survival. The Great Egret has been seen as a symbol of gratitude and contentment. I hope this piece reflects those virtues.
