As with most visual artists, I work on my art practice alone. That separation can distance the artist from the very people they are hoping to touch. So, this past month I spent some time meeting the public and talking to folks who showed interest in the work I make and the techniques I’m using. I love these interactions because it focuses on the works that really catch people’s eye and the areas which they want to interact with.
I had a conversation with a young man who loved my grunge natural dye techniques because he did something similar with his jean jacket this summer. A woman talked about the work her friend is doing with monarch butterflies and how my piece Metamorphosis really caught her attention. Several people absolutely loved In the Light and shared their amazing experiences of seeing a luna moth in real life. It’s these conversations and personal interactions that reenergize me for the work I’m doing and the reason I’m doing it.
