Making Room for Making Art

Like many creatives, my schedule is often consumed by meaningful but busy work. Last week, pushed by a deadline, I cleared my calendar for a single day to focus entirely on making art.

I planned everything out the night before and prepped all the supplies I thought I might need. The star of the show was a woodcut I carved years ago that had just been collecting dust. I started by inking it up and running a few test prints on paper. Once I nailed the colour combination and rolling technique, I transitioned to fabric scraps. Voila! After just one misprint, I had a beautiful sampling of results.

While the prints spent a few hours drying, I moved on to the borders and quilting options. I dug into my stash of “less-than-fabulous” ecoprinted fabrics, bringing the whole piece together beautifully.
